A CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS
The Council of New York Special Education Administrators invites you to submit a presentation proposal for our spring conference on “Creating Learning Communities to Meet the Challenges of the 21st Century.” We are looking for local school district experts who have successfully implemented programs to meet the intent of IDEA and who would like to participate, not only as speakers, but also as resources and mentors for other conference attendees.
“How to” Topics for this conference include but are not limited to:
- Developing community collaborations to facilitate transitions in the 21st century
- Using Technology to expand a learning community
- Integrating assistive technology through UDL
- Implementing a evidence based Response to Intervention Model (Academic or Behavioral)
- Developing a cost effective Continuum of Special Education Programs to meet the requirements and intent of IDEIA
- Designing professional development in conjunction with general education on collaboration in such areas as
- Math instruction
- Early literacy
- Literacy across the content areas for middle and high school
- Developing a continuum of interventions within a school building
- Implementing strategies (such as alternative education programs for students at-risk) for reducing the failure rate among MS and HS Students
- Facilitating positive and collaborative relationships with families to reduce adversarial relationship.
- Bringing research-based practices into education programs
- Developing a continuum of programs for students with Autism 5-21
- Using data to inform instruction
- Develop formative assessments to improve instruction
- Providing direct instruction in social skills using a Social Skills Curriculum
- Delivering instruction in organization skills based on Executive Functioning data
FORMAT FOR PRESENTATIONS
The conference will include 10-16 presentations. Each presentation will be 90 minutes in length. Districts/Schools interested in submitting a presentation for consideration in the conference should submit the attached form.

If you are selected, you will be notified by October 15, 2008 and required to provide a copy of your presentation by November 15, 2008, for inclusion in the Conference Proceedings Handbook.
